*mutter* daylight time *mutter*

Actually, this year I just compensated for the time change by reading 'til 3 in the morning. My sleep patterns are messed up enough that I haven't noticed it all that much. This is probably not a healthy thing.

Brennen's First Rule of Software: As long as it sorta works most of the time, you're probably too lazy to upgrade, debug, configure, edit or replace it.

To put it another way, why do you think most of the world still uses Windows? Why is Word the world's most popular word processor? And why am I staring at 8 bit color in X, while thinking that I really ought to get sound working under Linux one of these days?

Speaking of word processors, LyX looks pretty cool. The interface could use some work, maybe, but I like the idea of "document processing" software that actually uses the computer's strengths to produce well laid out documents. Separating content from form, and all that. Unlike, as they point out, trying to turn your computer into a glorified typewriter. Which I think is a pretty good description of what's basically wrong with a piece of software like Word.

And now for some reason, Hardlink's not letting me log in. Guess I'll upload this later.

*Really* doing a terrible job updating this lately.

Went to a casino yesterday with friends... Interesting experience. Or frightening, depending on how you look at it. Something about all those old people at slot machines, pumping quarters and pushing the little button for hours on end, staring blankly ahead. Even worse are the ones with the little debit card thing that plugs into a slot on the machine and has a convenient cord with a clip to attach to your clothes. It's like you can see it sucking the life out of them...

I probably would've come out ahead by a few bucks if I'd stayed at the blackjack table (or quit once I left it), but I can only spend so much time deliberately making myself look like an idiot. Then I decided to play roulette. I'm only down $16 or so... Which I should probably have bought a trade paperback or something with, but oh well.

My counter seems to have reset somewhere around 3000 hits. Weird. Guess I'll start it at 0.

Ahhh, April 1. The 'net's most honored holiday, when all legitimate information is drowned out in a wave of April Fools posts, e-mails, articles, RFC's and altered web pages. I love it.
