I read Cormac McCarthy's The Crossing the other night. Excellent. Harsh, not entirely easy to read, but excellent.

Watched Die Weiße Rose in German yesterday. It tells the story of a resistance group based at the University of Munich during WWII. It doesn't end happily. The White Rose is a good English-language summary of the group's history.
